Mount Monda & Manor join PTR Singles Club

Today we reveal two new signings to PTR Singles Club - Mount Monda (VIC) and Manor (SA) – who will both feature on the second instalment of Vol. 2.

Mount Monda - ‘Summer Lungs’

Mount Monda has always lain in wait. Matt Walters can see it from his house, looming silently in the mist. One morning in 2020, he decided to run up it. He’s never looked back.

The metaphor isn’t lost on him. A former major label artist, Matt had turned his back on making music. He started live music events company Parlour Gigs in 2015. It hit a nerve with music lovers and artists alike.

“I started Parlour to help my musician friends make some money,” says Matt. “It grew pretty fast into a global business and so before I knew it I hadn’t played a show or written a song in years. I didn’t miss making music at all.”

But if you’re a lapsed songwriter during the empty space of the pandemic songs will call you to action, beckoning you towards them like a mountain track in the mist.

A chance encounter at the foot of Mount Monda seemed a bit like a cosmic conspiracy. Producer and multi-instrumentalist Luke Postill worked on Matt’s very first EP back when he was signed to the major label. Luke and Matt hadn’t seen each other since recording that EP. Then they bumped into each other beneath the mountain.

They dusted off their home recording gear. Mount Monda was born.

Manor - ‘How to Live With You’

The regional South Australian based duo Manor is comprised of Nathaniel Morse and Caitlin Duff, who have been making music together since their teens.

Manor composes songs loyal to the timeless principles of pop composition yet without fear of complicated arrangements and intuitive instrumentation. Owing to an affection for classic rock, their songs bear distinguishable nods to Crosby, Stills & Nash as well as psychedelic traits in the vein of Pink Floyd. Equally, they are influenced by the avant-garde leanings of contemporaries Animal Collective and St Vincent.

The production of the video for ‘How to Live with You’ was a labour of love between the band and the members of singer Caitlin's family. Shot in New Zealand, the post-apocalyptic scenery acts as the perfect setting for the wandering hero (portrayed by Caitlin’s Sister, Ray) as she attempts to find her way back to a time that no longer exists. Elaborating on the themes of the video the band writes, “the story we’re telling here is one we really hope doesn’t come true for our two children, but it very well could.” They continue “It’s a crushing moment in adulthood when you realise you’re on your own, no matter how much you want to go back to simpler times.”
