EWAH & THE VISION OF PARADISE

Hailing from Tasmania, EWAH & The Vision of Paradise’s moody sound has been described as “epic post punk with a scope as wide as the Australian skyline.”

Brought together through the recommendation of late friend and label mate Mike Noga, the enigmatic act immediately sparked interest from PTR upon viewing their striking video for single, ‘Vanishing Point’. “Right from the start we could tell that the band had a clearly defined vision about what and who they are” states PTR’s Emma Coyle. “Having seen and loved their visceral live performance a few years ago, what sealed the deal for us was witnessing the high calibre of their creative output and getting swept up in the post-apocalyptic sci-fi narrative of their album”

For this first release from Vol.2 of PTR Singles Club, we offer a sneak peak of EWAH & The Vision of Paradise’s sophomore album The Warning Birds. Lead single ‘Vanishing Point’ will be paired with B Side ‘Arcadia (Light Room Version)’, a stripped back piano-led version track which also appears on The Warning Birds.

The video for ‘Vanishing Point’ was filmed by Joseph Shrimpton and Tess Campbell in the wilds of turbunna/Ben Lomond, a craggy and imposing mountain in lutruwita/Tasmania. It sees EWAH play a lone explorer traversing a new world with the hope of finding a safe haven to start new life. Playing with the idea of early colonists, EWAH is equipped with a handful of cumbersome devices and tools in a perhaps foolhardy attempt to understand the strange world she is trying to survive in. With its pulsating back beat and sinister, expansive guitar stabs it perfectly complements the dystopian landscapes depicted in the visuals; whilst EWAH’s evocative vocal performance hints at a brighter new beginning on the horizon.

Maintaining the high standard already set from their previous video, the clip for ‘Arcadia (Light Room Version)’ - filmed and edited by Ursula Woods depicts one third of The Vision of Paradise, Charles Donnelly on piano, accompanying singer EWAH, performing together in a white “light room”. The video again serves as a perfect visual representation for the sparse, yet dynamically rich version that the band presents here.

The band’s debut release, Everything Fades to Blue, was a eulogy to victims of violent crime against women, and captured attention nationally overseas including Jarvis Cocker’s Sunday Service on BBC Radio 6 (UK), Henry Rollins on KCRW radio (USA) and back in Australia, was album of the week Edge Radio (Hobart) and Top Ten Albums of the Week PBS (Melbourne). Single Walk the Night picked up regular rotation on Double J.

The Warning Birds will be out through Part Time Records in March 2022.
